We are proud that
the members of our organization have operated the Peninsula Celebration
Association since 1939 as a true volunteer group. our goal is to help make
our city not just a place to live, but a real community of people who care!!
The
Peninsula Celebration Association, locally known as the PCA, is a private
non-profit all volunteer organization that has sponsored and conducted the
July 4th celebration activities in Redwood City since 1939.
The annual
high aerial fireworks show has been an Independence Day tradition for many
years and enjoyed by thousands of people in the mid-peninsula area. The PCA
has informed City leaders that they will not produce a fireworks display at
the Port of Redwood City this year. In the current economic environment it
has been difficult to generate the funding needed to support this level of
fireworks show. The increasing cost of pyrotechnic materials,
transportation, insurance, and security over the past several years is also
a contributing factor.
The annual July 4th Invitational Parade and Festival will continue as
planned. The parade is expected to have more than 150 entertaining entries
and an estimated 40,000 + spectators will line the parade route.
One of the
highlights of the annual July 4th celebration is the Battle of the Bands
that occurs after the parade. In the past several years, the Stanford
University band and Cal-Aggie band from UC Davis have participated in this
exciting event. The PCA sponsored Festival features arts and crafts, food,
and a venue for local community non-profit groups to raise money for their
activities and projects.
